The Netherlands in the European context of FP7 and beyond

The Commission made the selection of work areas as listed in section 2.9 to focus its 55 M security funding. This represents a selection from a much broader spectrum of work areas. The focus areas for SENTINELS, namely ambient intelligence and e-business/e-government, overlap to an extent with the work areas of FP6, but they also leave work areas open that the commission is not covering, particularly in the Ambient Intelligence area.

This is of strategic importance for the Netherlands in general, and research institutions like Philips research labs and VU in particular, since the horizon of SENTINELS is longer than that of FP6. By developing a strong lead in the SENTINELS focus areas we believe that the Netherlands can have a major contribution to setting the agenda for the next Framework Program.
