The Ministry of Economic Affairs has been asked for a contribution of 5 M, 2.5 M from the IOP funds and 2.5 M from other funds (intended was CIC). The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research Governing Board (NWO-AB) and the Technology Foundation STW have each been asked for a contribution of 2.5 M. The remaining 3 M is obtained from matching funds.
In the table, ``matching funds: industry'' means that researchers applying for financial support from SENTINELS, are also required to obtain financial support from industry. This is called: collaborative research (see section 7.1). For each type of research project, industry has to contribute at least a certain percentage of the project costs: 10% for fundamental research, 25% for methods and tools, and 40% for prototype research. Also, industry has to contribute to knowledge exchange activities. This results in a minimum contribution of 2.6 M, but at the end of SENTINELS this amount may be higher.
The VICI-style professor in information security ensures anchoring (see section 3.3). He/she will start in year 4 (see table 5.2). This professor is fully funded from the SENTINELS budget (1.2 M). 0.8 M is obtained from public SENTINELS contributions (above the dashed line in table 5.1(a)). According to the VICI rules, the hosting university is required to contribute financially to such a professor. This can be found in the table below the dashed line as a ``matching fund'' from a university (0.4 M).
Universities also contribute to the research costs by the usual matching (such as infrastructure and supervision, according to the Technology Foundation's usual matching procedures). This is shown as a ``p.m.'' in the table.
